Support SB 144
Dear [legislator_greeting],
As one of your constituents, I urge you to support Georgia farmers and SB 144. Absent legislative action, a potential catastrophe is on the horizon for American agriculture that will impact farmers and put further strain on families across the country.
At risk is the availability of the tools Georgia farmers rely on to manage invasive weeds and keep yields high. Safe, approved crop protection tools are essential to Georgia farmers’ ability to keep costs low and ensure an affordable and abundant food supply. For example, without the most commonly used herbicide, food inflation could more than double—forcing us to pay even higher prices at the grocery store.
Yet, despite the clear science behind the safety and benefits of this technology, a wave of relentless litigation has targeted farmers’ best defense against weeds. These reckless lawsuits are based solely on an outlier report from a subagency of the World Health Organization and threaten our food supply, farmers’ livelihoods, and will lead to higher prices. The FBI and USDA have said this is an issue of national security.
SB 144 would protect Georgia farmers and the tools they rely on to grow our food. All it says is that the federally approved label is the law and that a company can’t be subject to relentless litigation for following the law. Contrary to claims by California activist groups and other critics, this bill is not blanket immunity for anyone, as lawsuits unrelated to the label are unaffected.
We can’t allow anti-ag activists and the W.H.O. to set agriculture policy in Georgia.
Please stand with farmers—not the out-of-state and foreign bureaucrats—and support SB 144.
Thank you.
