I’m a Virginia veteran, and I’m asking you to support HB 398.

I respect our local VSOs, but the reality is they’re overwhelmed. When I tried to get help with my claim, the earliest appointment was weeks out, and I was already buried in paperwork and deadlines. Paid assistance is not “taking advantage” of veterans. For many of us, it’s the only way forward when the system is backed up.

HB 398 gets the balance right. It keeps paid assistance available, but requires written agreements, clear disclosures, reasonable fee structures, and protections for veterans’ personal data. It also ensures veterans are informed about free options so they can make the choice that fits their situation.
