Support Montana Farmers and HB 522

As one of your constituents, I urge you to support Montana farmers and HB 522. Absent legislative action, a potential catastrophe is on the horizon for American agriculture that will affect farmers across the country and, more importantly, all our dinner tables.

At risk is the availability of the tools Montana farmers depend on to manage invasive weeds and keep yields high. Safe, approved crop protection tools are essential to Montana farmers’ ability to keep costs low and ensure an affordable and abundant food supply. Without the most commonly used pesticide, food inflation could more than double—forcing us all to pay even higher prices at the grocery store.

Yet, despite the clear science behind the safety and benefits of these products, the litigation industry is making a fortune targeting these tools with often meritless lawsuits, threatening our food supply and farmers’ livelihoods.

HB 522 would protect Montana farmers and the tools they rely on to grow our food. All it says is that the federally approved label is the law and that a company can’t be subject to relentless litigation for following the law. Contrary to critics’ claims, this bill does not provide blanket immunity for anyone, as claims unrelated to the label are unaffected.

Who do you want setting agriculture policy in Montana, our farmers or trial lawyers?

Please stand with farmers—not the litigation industry—and support HB 522.
