Support Missouri Farmers!
Dear [legislator_greeting]
As a voter and one of your constituents, I’m writing to you out of concern about the misinformation that’s been shared about HB 544 and the tools farmers rely on to feed us all. Absent legislative action, a potential catastrophe is on the horizon for American agriculture that will impact farmers across the country, and more importantly, all our dinner tables.
At risk is the availability of Missouri farmers’ #1 tool to manage invasive weeds and keep yields high. Safe, approved tools like glyphosate are essential to Missouri farmers’ ability to keep costs low and ensure an affordable and abundant food supply. Without glyphosate, food inflation could more than double—forcing us to pay even higher prices at the grocery store.
Yet, despite the clear science behind the safety and benefits of this technology, the litigation industry is targeting farmers’ best defense against weeds with relentless, and often meritless, lawsuits based on a single discredited report from a subagency of the World Health Organization. Ultimately, these reckless lawsuits threaten our food supply, farmers’ livelihoods, and will lead to higher prices. The FBI and USDA have said this is an issue of national security.
HB 544 would protect Missouri farmers and the tools they rely on to grow our food. All it says is that the federally approved label is the law and that a company can’t be subject to relentless litigation for following the law. Contrary to claims by California activist groups and other critics, this bill is not blanket immunity for anyone, as lawsuits unrelated to the label are unaffected.
I’m concerned that these misconceptions are drowning out the voice of Missouri farmers and, ultimately, of us all. This bill isn’t about any company; it’s about not allowing trial lawyers and the W.H.O. to effectively set agriculture policy in Missouri.
We’re counting on you to please stand with farmers—not the litigation industry and foreign bureaucrats—and support HB 544.
Thank you.
