Stop rent Gouging
As your constituent, I want you to vote yes on SB 5222/HB 1217 to stop rent gouging.
These bills would provide renters with predictability so they can plan for rent increases in coming years. The average monthly rent in Washington is $1,763, meaning a 7% increase would be almost $124 per month – enough for landlords to make repairs, keep up with costs, and still make a profit.
Voting yes will:
• Make housing costs predictable for Washington’s renters including for seniors, veterans, and single parents
living on fixed incomes.
• Prevent homelessness by reducing economic evictions
• Protect people on fixed incomes, like seniors and veterans, from rent gouging and displacement
• Keep students in their schools, instead of moving schools with each rent increase
• Provide businesses with more stable workforces
• Encourage community building as neighbors stay in place longer
Please let me know how you plan to vote.
