Stand up for Little Tech!
Right now, much of the conversation in Washington is focused on a few massive companies. Because training and employing AI models requires exceptional technical expertise and access to extensive datasets, development is often pushed toward established companies with significant resources. If we want American ingenuity to lead the world and keep Big Tech in check, we must ensure that our national AI policy empowers innovators rather than burdens them.
As a supporter of the American Innovators Network (AIN), I urge you to prioritize a few critical policies. First, lowering barriers for small businesses will identify and remove barriers that disproportionately harm startups’ ability to compete. Next, establishing a clear national standard will provide startups with the clarity and predictability to support a competitive AI ecosystem. The policy of protecting consumers and minors will support federal regulations that penalize the harmful misuse of AI technologies, including age-based safeguards, parental controls, and clear disclosures for uniquely vulnerable users under 18. Finally, helping us build and deploy regulatory sandboxes and streamlined permitting for data centers will reduce obstacles and encourage local innovation.
We need a thoughtful national governance approach that fosters startup AI innovation across all fifty states. Please stand with local innovators and help ensure that our nation remains at the forefront of technological advancements.
Thank you for your time and leadership on this issue.
Sincerely,
