Accidents happen. Sometimes you’re unlucky. Your tire blows and you crash, you lose your footing and get hurt falling, hail destroys your roof and siding. There is no one to blame, accidents happen. That is why you buy insurance.
Other times, it’s not an accident. Your mother is abused in a senior care facility, your spouse is fired because of their age or religious beliefs, your private property is improperly taken by eminent domain or civil asset forfeiture. What then?
This is why we have the right to trial by jury. Our Constitution gives us, as individuals, the power to protect our rights and our property in a court of law. You weakened that right when the legislature passed ‘tort reform’ legislation. That was a mistake. The rights of the individual should come first, not the insurance companies or the government.
