FN_Oppose SB474

Dear [Legislator’s Name],

Thank you for your service to the people of Montana.

I am writing to urge you to oppose SB 474, a dangerous bill that would weaken vaccine requirements and put Montana’s children, teachers, and communities at risk.

Right now, measles outbreaks are spreading across the country, disrupting schools, straining healthcare systems, and putting lives at risk. Montana has been fortunate to avoid major outbreaks—but that could change if we make it easier to opt out of vaccines.

SB 474 will loosen school vaccine requirements by introducing an “informed consent” exemption and redefining discrimination to include immunization status. This legislation will have disastrous consequences for our state.

Business will suffer: Weakening vaccine requirements poses substantial risks to both public health and economic stability. With outbreaks, businesses will face higher healthcare costs, decreased productivity, and increased disruptions to operations. Business owners should also have the right to decide how to protect their staff and customers.

We have seen the real consequences of vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks. Schools are forced to close, businesses lose productivity, and local healthcare costs skyrocket. Our economy, just like our health, depends on strong public health policies.

Weakening Montana’s vaccine laws would be a step backward. I urge you to stand up for a healthy Montana and vote NO on SB 474.

Thank you for your time and for protecting the health of Montana families.
