Enhance Historic Tax Credits
Lawmaker Letter
Dear {Insert Congressmember},
As Congress begins to consider tax policy changes in 2025, I urge you to protect and enhance the federal historic tax credit (HTC). For more than three decades, the HTC has supported the preservation of our most important historic buildings, supported community redevelopment, promoted job creation, and offered housing solutions through building reuse.
Please support provisions in the 2025 tax bill to make the federal HTC more valuable and easier to use by returning the HTC to a one-year credit, eliminating the basis adjustment, expanding eligibility for the credit, and enhancing the credit for smaller projects.
With some strategic improvements, this vital program can do even more. These proposed changes to the HTC will help revitalize cities and smaller Main Street communities, avoid wasteful demolition, and greatly assist in the preservation of historically significant buildings that tell the unique stories of our past for future generations.
The HTC has a proven track record of kickstarting job creation and attracting private investment while preserving tangible links to our past. Thank you for considering the value the HTC adds to our community and thousands of others across the country.
Sincerely,
