Don’t Cut Our Unemployment

Here is a copy of the letter we will send to your lawmakers:

I urge you to reject S.B. 2, a bad piece of legislation that reduces unemployment insurance benefits from 26 weeks to as few as twelve.

This change in the law would make West Virginia a major outlier, joining only 11 other states who DO NOT offer 26 weeks of unemployment insurance for displaced workers who lose their jobs due to no fault of their own.

No state bordering West Virginia offers less than 26 weeks of unemployment. This bill also penalizes displaced workers in rural counties because increased benefits only kick in when the statewide unemployment rate reaches 5.5%.

Please vote against S.B. 2 and protect workers and their families in West Virginia when they need help the most.
