Cosponsor the ALS Better Care Act – S. 3763 / H.R. 7336
Subject line: Cosponsor the ALS Better Care Act – S. 3763 / H.R. 7336
As your constituent and someone who has been impacted by ALS, I urge you to cosponsor the ALS Better Care Act (S. 3763 / H.R. 7336).
This bill would improve access to ALS clinics across the country. Access that people living with ALS seriously need.
ALS multidisciplinary clinics significantly lengthens life expectancy and improve quality of life. ALS Clinics bring together teams of specially trained health care professionals who work to address the many needs of people living with ALS, allowing them to receive comprehensive care during a single visit. Additionally, many multidisciplinary ALS clinics are involved in ALS research, providing ALS patients with opportunities for research and clinical trial participation.

However, ALS multidisciplinary clinics do not receive adequate Medicare reimbursement for the multifaceted care they provide and often rely on charity to make up the difference. This creates challenges for patients, including long wait times for services and reducing innovation in the care they provide. Reimbursing these facilities for the multidisciplinary care they provide is critical to the long-term health of people with ALS.
The ALS Better Care Act would ensure that these groundbreaking multidisciplinary clinics continue to provide quality, interdisciplinary care for ALS patients. The bill would:
— Create a supplemental, facility-based payment in Medicare for ALS-related services. On or after 2026, a single payment amount of $800 must be made to qualified providers or clinics.
— Ensure no cost sharing to people living with ALS for this supplemental payment.
— Direct the GAO to submit a report to HHS recommending a single payment amount for ALS-related services.
ALS multidisciplinary clinics offer invaluable support and evidence-based care to ALS patients and their families. The ALS Better Care Act would ensure that these multidisciplinary clinics can continue to provide exceptional, life-extending care to people living with ALS.
