Tennessee Wants Better Student Based Funding
Here is a copy of the letter we will send to your lawmakers:
I am asking you to support the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement Act (SB2143/HB2396). This bill would create more transparency and accountability and grant more flexibility in how we fund our schools through student-based funding.
I hope you will vote YES on SB2143/HB2396 to fund students, not systems, and provide Tennessee parents and taxpayers with a more transparent funding formula that recognizes each student’s unique needs.
Message / Background / Call to Action:
For three decades, Tennessee has funded the education system over students.
In addition to funding priorities that are out of line with student needs, the Basic Education Program is too complex for parents, taxpayers, educators, and even legislators to understand.
Gov. Bill Lee has proposed replacing the formula with one that funds students, not systems. The Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement Act would drastically improve how Tennessee funds public education. By making education funding focus on a student’s individual talents and needs, and not simply treat a student as an enrollment number, we can better serve students and promote transparency and accountability in how we fund our schools.
