Act Now: Support District SAFE!

Dear Chairman Thompson, Commissioner Beverly, and Commissioner Trabue, 

I am writing to express my strong support for Washington Gas’s proposed District SAFE program, an essential initiative to modernize natural gas pipelines in the District. 

This program is crucial for public safety and the long-term reliability for the many homes and businesses that rely on natural gas. As a resident of the District, it is important that the Commission safeguard the integrity of the natural gas system. 

District SAFE will ensure that safety remains a top priority. The program focuses on replacing older, higher-risk pipelines, to minimize emergency repairs and safety hazards. In addition to improving safety and reliability, the District SAFE program will help reduce methane emissions. By replacing older leak-prone pipelines, District SAFE can directly contribute to the District’s climate goals. 

For these reasons, I urge the Commission to approve the District SAFE program. It offers a balanced, forward-thinking solution that ensures safety, continues to provide access to a very reliable and affordable source of energy for customers in the District and supports the District’s climate goals.
