Sour on Lemon Law

I am writing to express my strong opposition to AB 1755, which threatens to undermine California’s nation-leading auto lemon law. This legislation was drafted in secret by one company and pushed through without the input of voters like me, nonprofit consumer groups, auto safety organizations, or other manufacturers. This lack of transparency is deeply concerning and sets a dangerous precedent for our legislative system.

AB 1755 weakens critical consumer protections. By requiring vehicle owners to notify manufacturers in writing before pursuing penalties for warranty violations, AB 1755 burdens consumers, especially our most vulnerable citizens: those at an economic disadvantage and those less proficient in English. This allows manufacturers to ignore consumer complaints without consequence and traps everyday Californians in unsafe, defective vehicles.

I urge you to stand up for the millions of Californians who rely on their vehicles for their livelihoods and safety. Please vote against AB 1755 and demand a transparent legislative process that includes the voices of all Californians. There is no urgent need to rush this bill through this year; instead, the issue should be discussed and negotiated transparently. California deserves laws that protect its citizens, not those that benefit a small group of companies at our expense.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
