Oppose HB5144 to Protect Veterans’ Rights

As a proud veteran advocate and your constituent, I am writing to urge your support for policies that allow veterans the freedom to work with professional VA claims consultants when preparing to file disability claims and oppose policies that don’t, like HB 5144. Navigating the VA benefits system is often overwhelming and confusing, and while Veterans Service Organizations do important work, they are frequently overburdened and unable to provide the individualized attention many veterans need. Allowing access to professional claims consultants gives vets more options and ensures they have the best possible chance at receiving the benefits they have earned through their service.

Restricting veterans’ choices only makes the process harder for those who have already sacrificed so much for our country. HB 5144 will do exactly that. Not to mention, the bill protects and handful of lawyers who benefit from veterans being trapped in the system. This is not the solution. I believe that promoting competition and empowering veterans to seek the help that works best for them is a commonsense, pro-veteran approach. Please stand with veterans by opposing HB 5144 as it limits our right to choose professional assistance.
