Open Our Federal Waters & Land
Letter To Lawmakers:
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to express my views on the Department of the Interior’s proposed 5-year program for oil and gas leasing in the Gulf of Mexico. I am strongly in favor of producing energy here at home, and the proposed 5-year program leaves open the very real possibility that we cede our energy leadership to foreign adversaries that do not have our best interests at heart.
I am particularly worried about the option that includes no new lease sales over the next 5 years. This would be a devastating blow to the future of offshore energy in America. Keeping our energy on the sidelines is never a good idea, but it’s a particularly terrible one when America – and the world – is in desperate need of more energy.
The best way to move forward is a robust offshore leasing program that includes all 11 proposed sales. Anything short means that we are willfully taking a step back in energy leadership and Interior is not doing everything it can to help Americans with high energy prices. Is that really a good thing when our economy remains on shaky ground?
Please listen to me and millions of others who want us to fully develop our energy resources. I urge you to choose the option that keeps energy flowing from the Gulf of Mexico for decades into the future.
Thank you.
