Demand Vincent Bolloré Divest from Universal Music Group
Vincent Bolloré is a billionaire French tycoon accused of making a fortune by exploiting African
communities. He is also the largest shareholder of Universal Music Group (UMG), one of the
most influential music companies in the world. Restitution for Africa (RAF) which is a coalition of
African organizations, recently filed a lawsuit against Bolloré for money laundering of proceeds
from schemes of corruption and misappropriation of billions of dollars worth of resources from
African communities. This scandal has also been widely reported in media in Europe and the
United States:
- NY Post: Media tycoon who bankrolled Taylor Swift, Rihanna sued for corruption and money laundering in Africa
- Le Monde: NGOs file suit accusing billionaire Vincent Bolloré of being at heart of African ‘system of corruption’
- Bloomberg: THE RUBBER BARONS: Hubert Fabri and Vincent Bolloré own plantations accused of land appropriation and labor abuses. Their company says it has taken steps to improve matters, but a trip to West Africa shows sexual coercion claims remain widespread.
- sporskeeda: Who is UMG’s largest stakeholder? Allegations against the Bolloré Group explored after Drake points finger in the amended lawsuit
Bolloré’s ownership stake in UMG cannot be separated from the serious allegations of corruption, human rights abuses, and exploitive behavior. To conclusively remove the continued stain on UMG and the artists it represents, this petition demands that Bolloré divest his ownership of any shares in UMG, directly or through entities he controls. Knowingly or not, all artists represented by UMG are doing business with and benefitting Bolloré, who’s been widely criticized for evading accountability because of his deep political and economic connections.
We believe that UMG must uphold ethical standards and distance itself from individuals whose actions contradict the company’s and its artists’ values of integrity and social responsibility.
By signing this petition, you join a global community demanding accountability, transparency, and responsible corporate leadership.
