Require Hands-Only CPR Training for Alaska Students Before Graduation
Dear Lawmaker,
I’m writing to ask for your support for SB 20, the CPR in Schools bill. This bill would ensure that Alaska students receive Hands-Only CPR training before high school graduation, equipping thousands of young people each year with the ability to save a life.
Cardiac arrest can happen anytime and anywhere — at school, at home, or in our communities. When a bystander knows CPR and acts quickly, survival rates can double or even triple. Preparing students with this simple, lifesaving skill strengthens every community in Alaska, especially in areas where emergency response times may be longer.
SB 20 is a practical way to expand lifesaving readiness across the state. Training students requires minimal class time, and many Alaska schools already have the equipment and resources needed to incorporate Hands-Only CPR instruction.
I respectfully urge you to vote yes on SB 20 when it comes to the House Floor. Alaska students deserve the opportunity to learn a skill—and attend schools with plans in place—that could save a friend, a family member, or a neighbor.
Thank you for your time and for your commitment to the education and safety of Alaska’s youth.
