Please Deliver on Climate in the 2025 Transportation Package

Body

As my voice in the legislature, I’m counting on you to ensure the 2025 transportation package delivers clean, safe, affordable, and climate-forward transportation options for all Oregonians. In order to address climate pollution from our top-emitting sector, the transportation package must invest in clean, electric vehicles and charging. We already have programs on the books that are moving us in the right direction, but they need sustained funding to succeed. Please fight to ensure that these clean air and transportation investments are included in this package:

Zero-Emission Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicle Incentive Rebate Program – $60M: The Legislature created this fund in 2023 to assist Oregon businesses in upgrading their diesel trucks to cleaner models. This continued investment enables us to accelerate the transition in communities most severely affected by diesel pollution and create economic opportunities in vehicle manufacturing and the installation of charging infrastructure.

Zero Emission Fueling Grant Program – $20m: Also launched by the Legislature in 2023, this program helps build the charging stations needed for electric trucks and buses. Expanding this network is crucial for reducing freight pollution and ensuring that every type of truck can participate in the shift toward clean transportation.

Oregon Clean Vehicle Rebate Program/Charge Ahead – $36M: This vital program keeps getting paused because it’s underfunded. By investing in Charge Ahead, the legislature can make sure low- and moderate-income Oregonians can afford electric cars, save money on gas and repairs, and breathe cleaner air. This program is critical to ensuring equitable access to zero-emission vehicles.

Oregon Community Charging Grants $30M: This program offers financial incentives to support charging stations at strategic locations such as public parking areas, workplaces, and multifamily housing throughout Oregon. 70% of the program’s funds are reserved for projects in disadvantaged and rural communities, aiming to promote equitable access to EV infrastructure.

Zero-Emission School Bus Act (HB 2945) – $40M: This bill is essential and will help Oregon school districts purchase electric school buses. This bill will protect children from harmful diesel pollution while waiting for and riding a school bus, while saving school districts’ money on fuel and maintenance.

As your constituent, I need you to take decisive action in supporting these investments. I need you to seize this opportunity to build a healthier, more sustainable future for all Oregonians.

Thank you for your leadership through action.
