Establish Bahsahwahbee National Monument !

I am writing because three Tribal Nations have asked your administration to honor their ancestors. Now is the time to do it.

The Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation, the Duckwater Shoshone Tribe, and the Ely Shoshone Tribe are seeking to establish Bahsahwahbee National Monument in eastern Nevada as a national park site to tell their stories about a once thriving community that were hunted down in several massacres, including one that is the largest known massacre in US history.

Adding this site to our National Park System will deliver on your commitments made in Executive Orders regarding the America the Beautiful Campaign (30×30) and Tribal Sovereignty, but time is running out to get this across the finish line.

Bahsahwahbee is a remarkable place where Tribes still gather to celebrate their culture and honor their slain ancestors. Protecting this sacred place of memory and mourning within the National Park System would ensure our shared history— including its chapters of grave injustice and survival—is fully honored and remembered.

Please commit to taking action this year to establish Bahsahwahbee National Monument within the National Park System.
