Reject the proposed Medicare Local Coverage Determination (LCD)
It is time to halt the proposed Medicare local coverage determination limiting diabetes treatments.
The proposed Medicare Local Coverage Determination (LCD) seeks to severely impact essential treatment options for over 600,000 diabetic patients with lower-extremity diabetic ulcers (LEDUs) which particularly effects seniors, veterans, and minorities;
Treatments such as Dehydrated Amniotic and Chorionic Allografts (DHACAs) have demonstrated efficacy in combating LEDUs by reducing mortality, amputations, emergency visits, and readmissions;
The proposed LCD places government bureaucrats and insurance companies in control of patient care, by limiting the use of DHACAs, thereby undermining the expertise of medical professionals;
The implementation of the proposed LCD would endanger patients and compromise the ability of providers to deliver care;
If this radical proposal is not stopped, the word “care” will be stripped right out of Medicare.
We urge you to petition CMS and MACs to reject the proposed LCD, ensure continued coverage and access to treatments such as DHACAs, and protect patient rights, particularly for the most vulnerable.
