Say no to government-mandated caps on damages
Here is a copy of the letter we will send to your lawmakers:
Dear XXXX,
Accountability counts, NO HF 2279.
As a voter in your district, I wanted to touch base and ask you to say no to government-mandated caps on damages. I know that HF 2279 has been brought up as something that should happen in Iowa, and that concerns me because it destroys our right to trial by a citizen jury. Any effort to force a one-size-fits-all, government-mandated dollar value on human life is a detriment to that right.
When someone has been grievously injured or died and asks for damages from the wrongdoer it is their best chance to hold a dangerous corporate nursing home, a reckless driver, a negligent hospital, or a corrupt employer accountable. Please do not allow this to be diminished.
Your constituents are counting on you to protect our rights. Juries should decide the outcome of court cases, not government mandates.
Thank you.
